Betabrand is seeking a Design Director to lead our very-unique approach to creating & launching new products. You will manage a team of 6 plus an audience of hundreds of thousands of participant consumers & designers!

You’ll inspire a global design dialog and launch new products weekly -- shoes, bags, pants, jackets, dresses, sweaters and all manner of soft goods. Soon more!

We ask: What happens when the Web builds a clothing brand?

The result: Products come to life like memes on Betabrand and our design & creative departments socialize them to life. Quickly. Sometimes in days!

We’ve launched over a thousand products in this manner. The concepts come from our in-house design team, independent designers, fans, and major brands like The North Face, Timberland, Vivobarefoot, and more.

Sound interesting?

We’re looking for someone with experience using a human-centered design approach to create products for women. And communicating the value of those designs too.

We’re looking for a person who’s created products from an initial idea to launch. Fashion experience is a plus, but we’re open to candidates from other industries who’ve connected consumer need with novel ideas -- particularly if you’ve taken a leading role in communication.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Has 7-10 years of relevant experience.
  • Has a portfolio of products/services/experiences she/he has brought to life.
  • Is a student of and preacher of human-centered design.
  • Is confident about his/her ability to captivate an audience. Have you popularized something before? We’re excited to hear how.
  • This person will have a strong point of view on the process by which she, and the team, will work.
  • Must be thrilled to post her/his own ideas onto the Betabrand platform! While you’ll be editor and chief of a global design dialog, you will also be an active player/user of the platform.
  • Thrives on a fast pace and an ability to back out of dead-ends. At Betabrand, we launch new products weekly, and you will be responsible for filling that product pipeline.
  • Has managed a business unit, both quantitatively and qualitatively. You’re a capable analyst and very comfortable with numbers.
  • Has experience working on creative teams and has a point of view on how to get the best from different types of designers.

An Idealer Candidate:

  • Has years of experience as a designer, either for a design consultancy or a consumer brand.
  • Wants to make a mark on the design world in a brand new way.
  • Could write this job posting better than the CEO could at 6AM with only one cup of coffee in him. Yes, your job is to work with me to make everything at Betabrand cooler.

A final summary!

The role reports directly to the CEO.

It is an equity position and pay is based on experience.

  • Note that equity doesn’t apply for freelance applicants.
  • Freelance opportunity is for the summer -- enough time for the right person to make an impact, but we’re ideally looking for a full-timer.
  • Freelance designer could convert into full-time if the fit is right.

You will be a member of the company’s senior management team, with a voice in the company’s strategic direction.

The job involves quarterly travel to Hong Kong & New York.

You will also represent the company in meetings with partner brands. Companies like The North Face, Timberland, Li & Fung, and others have used Betabrand as a product development platform. More to come!

If this job sounds exciting to you, please apply to Betabrand founder [email protected] with a resume, a few thoughtful notes and links to your best work. I look forward to talking shop.
